Ode to Tobacco Flower

Mamón Chino
Mamón Chino

I wore a new perfume today

and liked it more than I can say.

It had a complex harmony,

a great sillage, longevity.

The scent also reminded me

of a present I once received—

a fragrance since discontinued,

which I loved on first eager use.

For this reason I’ll never know

whether it’s by merit alone

that this perfume has won my heart

or how nostalgia’s played a part.
