Perfumed Alphabet: C is for Cedarwood

cloche de fontis

Pencils, on first sniff you might say,

As nostalgia whisks you away

To a classroom from your childhood—

That is Virginian cedarwood.

If it had been Atlas instead,

Elsewhere your mind may have been led—

Cool and creamy, this timeless note

Suggests a musky undertone.

A versatile wood, is cedar;

Harmonious, it’s a leader

In perfumes with “Bois” in their names

And ancient in its claim to fame.
