The lemming that found a new home

‘Twas the week before Christmas, when a package came

Containing a perfume I’d known only by name:

7 as a Constant, the newest creation

From Aura of Kazakhstan—to my elation.

I’d read about it and the notes sounded so good:

Apricot, osmanthus, orris, and agarwood;

Carrot seed, davana, amber, and patchouli

Made this an instant lemming for yours truly.

Eagerly I waited for it to be released,

Checking the website every day for 3 weeks.

When it finally dropped, I bought it right away—

They’d no samples yet, so I got the travel spray.

With great anticipation, I spritzed some on skin;

A nice fruity floral, good way to begin.

Briefly it was a literal dried apricot;

From what I’d read, it would be coated in chocolate.

However… instead, a powdery accord

With maltol, like in the modern Miss Dior

Started to dominate and disagreed with me.

I know someone who likes Miss Dior, luckily

And gave this one to her over the holiday.

To my joy, she loved it, and on her it smells great!

‘Tis the magic of differing skin chemistries;

A happy ending, thanks to life’s fragrant mysteries!

  1. I would say that it was totally worth it! Not only your friend got a nice gift from you, but it inspired you to write this great poem. And, hopefully, this lesson will stick this time 😉

    1. I agree! I was just as thrilled that my extended family member loved it as I would have been if I loved it myself, as this kind of opportunity to make someone else happy with perfume is rare for me.

  2. And now the circle is complete, Nose Prose. I’ve learned my lesson, even at the suggestion of others who liked a fragrance, you must test on your own skin. I’m glad they enjoyed your generous gift. Thanks for sharing your lovely poem and experience.

      1. Well, you learned more that one lesson from the experience then. I have a good friend who is one of those people that can wear anything and it smells amazing on her. You can take the same fragrance, spritz it on anyone else, and it pales in comparison.
