It turns out that in between highlights such as holidays, my days don’t offer much fodder for blog posts. My perfume life has been pretty uneventful and veering toward monogamy with Heeley Note de Yuzu, which still maintains its status of truth in advertising. It’s great for the hot, humid summer days that have characterized most of July in the East Coast. I’m also trying to get as close to finishing the bottle as I can while the citrus and aldehydes are still fresh, 2 years after buying it.
However, I have been alternating every 2 days of Note de Yuzu with 1 day of Masque Milano L’Attesa, in a sort of stomp-stomp-clap pattern. That’s mostly because I’ve discovered that L’Attesa works really well for me in the humid heat, and the morning spritzes last me all day. The iris is carroty and floral.
Both of these perfumes feel “yellow” to me—with Note de Yuzu, the associations are pretty obvious as yuzu is a yellow fruit and the bottle label has a yellow outline. With L’Attesa, the reason is less clear; the liquid is yellowish, but more likely it’s the iris note on a brighter register that’s leading the effect. I felt that way about Parle Moi de Parfum Orris Tattoo as well. Another possibility is that I see the letter L as yellow in my mind… but just as I start to be convinced, I remember that plenty of other perfume names start with L and I don’t associate those with yellow.
A small perfumista victory I will claim, though, is that I was watching (more like blankly looking in the direction of) ESPN at the bar of a pizza restaurant the other day and when SPORTSCENTER flashed across the screen in all caps, my reflex was to read it as “SPORT SCENTER” rather than “SPORTS CENTER”!
Several of you have already led interesting discussions about scenting the sports in the Olympics, and I’ve enjoyed reading and participating (in the capacity of my limited imagination when it comes to sports). Hope the rest of the summer goes well for all of you.

Good perfume choices! I should try L’Attesa in summer (though, it’s not particularly humid here). For me, it’s definitely not yellow. Not that I think about perfumes in colors. Most of my color connections/associations are based either on the color of the packaging or the color of the flower that is the main floral note of perfume. And even though I saw yellow irises, for me iris is blue or purple… which is strange since it’s not a flower that is used in perfumery. But what can I do?

I remember when I first wrote about trying L’Attesa in freezing winter and you told me to try it again in warmer weather. 🙂 It certainly seems to do better in the warmth!
I’m also heavily influenced by the color of a bottle, the liquid, or the main note. Interesting how our subconscious minds work!

For me most of Iris-heavy perfumes are spring perfumes. I’m not sure why. Even though our Spring and Fall have similar temperatures, and with evergreens around it’s hard to explain the difference, I prefer to wear irises in Spring.

I love reading about other people’s neuro pathways work. I get red flashes from some fragrances, you see yellow with others & with a letter. The human brain is so plastic in its learning but some sounds & shapes seem to be understood on a far more basic level. The kiki & bouba effect is the best example. Enough nerding from me!
Lovely choice of scents for these dog days

I’m fascinated by these subjects as well. I wonder why some associations are dependent on the individual while kiki & bouba are more universal.

Great scent choices, Nose Prose! That’s interesting you mention you see the Masque Milano as yellow in colour. I recall smelling some of its elements (citrus, ylang ylang and champagne) as yellow too. I’ll have to revisit the Parle Moi to see what I pick up with that one. Enjoy the long summer days.

That would make sense, several elements making it yellow. Sunshine isn’t guaranteed on our long summer days, as we’ve gotten quite a bit of clouds and rain as well. Hope you’re enjoying your winter!

Thanks. Our winters here in Queensland are pretty mild. For instance today we have a maximum of 23 Celsius (73 Fahrenheit). Makes for plenty of opportunity to get into the great outdoors. Not much opportunity for a winter fragrance wardrobe, though.
