Perfumed Alphabet: E is for Ethyl Maltol

A cotton candy

Flavored sweet cream–filled pastry

Filled up my molar

Ethyl maltol is powerful stuff. My vial was supplied as a 1% solution in propylene glycol and it smells like concentrated, warm sugar. A little like caramel toffee, without quite enough of the “roasted” note. It is strawberry lip gloss and every modern, too-sweet, gen-Z–targeted perfume out there… or is it gen-alpha? Perhaps I exaggerate or have bought into the cliché, but you get the idea. This substance is surprisingly allowed at a maximum of 4% in a final concentration of perfume.
