By any other name, a rose
Would be as gorgeous in perfume;
And as polarizing—for those
Who would fall for it, or refuse.
Universal symbol of love,
And there are many different kinds—
Of roses, as well as of love.
Is a perfect one hard to find?
From fresh to fleshy, bright to dark;
In boudoirs, at afternoon tea…
It takes only a spritz to mark
Rose-tinted reveries on me.
It’s all too easy to wax poetic about rose, in and out of perfume. I liked rose perfumes before I knew it, and even more so with a fruity dimension. Here is my rose collection so far:
[top-bottom, left-right, in no meaningful order] Givenchy Rêve d’Escapade, Penhaligon’s The Coveted Duchess Rose, L’Orchestre Parfum Rose Trombone, (sample vial) Atelier Cologne Rose Anonyme, nomenclature holy_wood, Tauer Perfumes Une Rose Chyprée, (mini) Frédéric Malle Portrait of a Lady, 4160Tuesdays Red Queen.
I’ve also enjoyed samples of Le Labo Rose 31, Diptyque Eau Rose, and Liquides Imaginaires Dom Rosa. There may well be others I can’t think of right now…
I notice I’m not the first this week to post about rose perfumes—what synchrony!—but I’ll ask anyway: what are your chosen roses?
